Congress on Tuesday ruled out change of leadership in its Uttar Pradesh unit ahead of assembly elections in the state and said the party would fight the poll on its own.

With party President Sonia Gandhi sounding the bugle for the electoral battle early next year during her visit to Rae Bareli last week, Congress has swung into action activating the state into eight sectors from organisational work point of view and working overtime to reconstitute District Congress Committees and the PCC at the earliest.

"There will be no change of leadership in the state. Salman Khursheed will continue as PCC President," AICC General Secretary and Incharge for UP Ashok Gehlot said.

Asked about the possibility of inducting Rahul Gandhi to lead the campaign in the politically crucial state, he said, "we want him as a national General Secretary Incharge of frontal organisations. Uttar Pradesh will also benefit from it."

Gandhi, who had earlier expressed willingness to work in the state, would address rallies and public contact programmes along with his mother and party Chief Sonia Gandhi, he said.
