Alleging that the polling process in Sambhal Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh was "stage-managed" in favour of the Samajwadi Party candidate Ramgopal Yadav, who is Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's brother, the Congress candidate Ashok Yadav has demanded countermanding of the election in Sambhal.

In a written complaint to Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy, Yadav alleged that Samajwadi Party indulged in "largescale" rigging and booth capturing in the May 10 polls in Sambhal.

"Around 20,000 anti-social elements were brought into the constituency in about 5000 vehicles. These persons were employed for booth capturing and rigging," Yadav wrote in the complaint and claimed that there was "adequate evidence" in the form of footage shot by Star News channel to prove his allegations of rigging.

Yadav alleged that that BSF and CISF troops, which were available for deployment, were "deliberately" not posted to the booths declared sensitive where he claimed widespread rigging took place.

He further said the Chief Minister landed in Gunnaur and thereafter flew over the entire Sambhal constituency so as to "intimidate" the administration and the polling officials.

"The entire election to the Sambhal parliamentary constituency should be countermanded in the interest of justice," he said.
