Same facilities for more fare? That’s unfair

The Delhi government’s decision to hike bus fares is unjustifiable (Steep bus fair hike, October 27). It should have compared Delhi’s bus fares with those in other cities before taking such a crucial decision.

The Delhi government’s decision to hike bus fares is unjustifiable (Steep bus fair hike, October 27). It should have compared Delhi’s bus fares with those in other cities before taking such a crucial decision. If the government expects commuters to pay extra, then people will expect better facilities from the transport department. There should be more buses on the roads and drivers should be checked for rash driving.

A wake-up call for government

The report Rajdhani held hostage in Naxal land (October 28), which states that it took almost five hours for the rescue team to reach the site, shows the deplorable state of public infrastructure and services in Naxal-hit areas. It’s clear from the incident that the government has to get its act together to combat the insurgent groups. This can be achieved either through an armed offensive or peaceful dialogue. It’s in the national interest that the problem is resolved peacefully.

The incident should be an eye-opener for the government. The lives of hundreds of passengers onboard the hijacked Rajdhani Express were at grave risk. Even the insurgents should realise that violence is making them lose pubic sympathy. They should resort to other, peaceful ways to protest against the State.

Where’s the proof, Mr Malik?

The editorial Fund of information (The Pundit, October 28) highlighted Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s ideological bankruptcy. Malik has no proof to support his claim that India is sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan. The question is why would India assist the militant groups that consider India as their enemy? Such allegations against India by senior Pakistani politicians are not unusual.
