These include all samples collected on March 17 and most of those collected on March 30 from districts of Burhanpur, Barwani, Khargone, Jhabua, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Seoni, Betul, Indore, Khandwa and Dhar. The State Directorate of Veterinary Services has said that apart from Ichchapur (in Burhanpur district) the effect of the huge number of positive samples from Jalgaon district of neighbouring Maharashtra has not been felt.

As many as 3,528 samples from across the State have till now been tested at HSADL and apart from the Ichchapur sample, all have tested negative.

The State Government had declared high alert in the districts of Burhanpur, Barwani, Khargone and Jhabua following announcement of positive samples from Jalgaon on March 14. Later, when a sample from Ichchapur (in Burhanpur district) – only two kms from Jalgaon border – tested positive on March 28, culling operations were undertaken in 23 villages nearby and 8,540 birds were culled.

Also disinfectants were sprinkled at 2,600 villages. Similarly, owing to positive results from Varhad in Maharashtra, about 2,916 birds were culled in four villages of Barwani district that fell in 10 kms radius from Varhad. Disinfectants were spread in 329 houses in these villages. Fresh samples were collected from the bordering villages.

The department has said during the last week there have been no reports of any unnatural deaths of poultry from bordering districts.
