Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, the world's second-largest maker of large liquid crystal displays (LCD), said on Monday it has agreed with Sony Corp to jointly invest $2 billion on a new LCD production line.

S-LCD, an existing LCD joint venture between the two firms, will build the "eighth-generation" line, which will begin mass production in the autumn of 2007, Samsung said in a filing to the Korea Exchange.
