Sandeep Singh's condition improves

India's star hockey player Sandeep Singh, who was injured after the pistol of an RPF jawan 'accidentally' went off on board the Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express, was 'conscious and stable', doctors at the PGI said in Chandigarh on Wednesday.

"Sandeep Singh is fine. He is stable and responding well to the treatment," PGI sources said.

The bullet lodged in Singh's pelvis or hip bone was surgically removed by PGI doctors after the drag-flicker was on Tuesday rushed there from a hospital in Kurekshetra following the accidental firing incident.

PGI's Medical Superintendent Professor AK Gupta had said on Tuesday that Sandeep had been kept under observation for the next 48 hours after his nearly 3-hour-long surgery to extract the bullet.

An RPF jawan's service pistol had 'accidentally' gone off on board the Delhi-bound train hitting the 21-year-old player on the right side of his hip.
