Until a decade ago, reaching the 10,000-run milestone in any format of international cricket was extremely difficult. It is still no child’s play, but with the amount of cricket being played, that list in both Tests and one-dayers is lengthening.On Tuesday, Kumar Sangakkara could become the 10th ODI batsman to scale Mount 10K. The stylish Sri Lankan batsman is just 42 runs short of the mark going into the CB Series tie against India at the Adelaide Oval. However, the milestone was the last thing on Sangakkara's mind. Instead, he focused on putting pressure on India.

“Our strength has always been playing India away from India. They are always strong in India, with the smaller grounds and conditions which they are used to. But away from home, we have always done very well against them.”

But neither Sangakkara nor captain Mahela Jayawardene, already a member of the 10,000-club in both formats, were able to make any sizeable contribution in Sri Lanka's first two defeats. “Yeah, you do get disappointed. That's the way the game is. (If) you don't score, you don't score," Sangakkara said.
