The controversy about Shoaib Malik’s marriage...or divorce notwithstanding, Sania Mirza has left nothing to chance as far as wedding preparations go. The invites have already been sent out to family and friends, and the fittings for Sania and Shoaib’s dresses for the special functions are over.

Delhi-based designer Shantanu Mehra from the designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil, who have done the outfits for the couple, told HT City, “For her wedding reception on April 15 in Hyderabad, Sania will wear a churidaar kurta with a khada dupatta — a very Hyderabadi way of taking the typical nine-yards odhni.”

For the walima (reception) in Lahore on the 17th, they have designed her a lehenga in neutral and pastel shades. “Sania is very fond of vintage shades like maroon and emerald greens. The lehenga has a very Mughal era feel with block prints and traditional motifs. It has four shades of swarovski in square and diamond shapes. There are over 1.5 lakh swarovski crystals, just on the lehenga,” says Mehra.

The designers have also designed outfits for Sania’s mother, Naseem Mirza. “She is wearing a churidaar kurta for the function in Hyderabad and a sari for the reception,” Mehra reveals. The designers revealed that Sania had visited their studio with her mother a few days ago to finalise the outfits and get the fittings done.
