Sanitation work of Allahabad Junction railway station seems all set to go into the private hands, if things shape up according to plans.

According to sources in the Railways the sanitation work which includes cleaning of offices, water booths, tracks, platforms, retiring room and circulating area will be given on contract.
The contractors will have their own manpower, jet machines, pest control equipment, water supply and power supply system for the purpose, while the railways will supervise the contractor's work and ensure that quality is maintained, said the sources.
With this move, the filling up of vacancies in different units related to sanitation will not be required.
In this regard, a meeting of senior officers of the North Central Railway was held here recently, where they discussed the details of the proposal and chalked out a plan to give a better and improved look to the station.
When contacted, Divisional Railway Manager, Allahabad, SK Chaudhary said, "Steps are being taken to ensure that the passengers get clean platforms and for this we plan to assign sanitation work to the contractors and introduce mechanised cleaning."
However, group D employees of the railways will continue with those work which cannot be done with the help of machines. Besides, we will engage group D employees in vacant posts which are existing in different units, said Chaudhary.
