INDORE MUNICIPAL Corporation (IMC) sanitation workers will go on an indefinite strike starting Monday to press for their demands notably regularisation of muster roll employees whose services date back to 1986.
“We gave the IMC administration three days’ time to respond to our demands but there has been no communication in this regard. Their apathy has left us with no choice but to strike work,” Nagar Nigam Safai Karamchari Congress president Jatashankar Karosia said.
It may be recalled that sanitation workers staged a demonstration at IMC headquarters on February 17, the date of the postponed general council meeting, to draw attention to their demands.
The workers also submitted a 41-point memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister calling for hike in general provident fund payments and distribution of benefits to family members of deceased colleagues from the IMC headquarters instead of zone offices. The memorandum was submitted to deputy divisional commissioner Vandana Vaidya.
