Only 10 of the 24 accused were present when the case came up for hearing before the court of Principal District and Sessions Judge of Puducherry, D Krishnaraja.

The absentees included the two seers.

The case pertains to the murder of Sankararaman, the Manager of Kanchipuram Varadarajaperumal temple, on September 3, 2004.

Meanwhile, a Special Leave Petition filed by the defence in the Supreme Court, questioning the continuance of Special Public Prosecutor of Tamil Nadu in the case being heard in Union Territory of Puducherry, is pending disposal.
