When the case came up for hearing before Principal District and Sessions Judge M Chinnapandi, five of the 24 accused were absent.

The absentees included Jayendrara Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi.

The counsels for them and also for the three other accused filed petitions detailing the reasons for the absence of their clients.

In the case of Palani and Arumugham they were involved in an attempt to murder case in Chennai.

While Palani had been arrested by Tamil Nadu police, Arumugham was absconding.

Judge Chinnapandi had earlier on April 17 issued an arrest warrant againt Arumugham which was yet to be executed.

Since the police failed to arrest Arumugham, the judge posted the hearing in the case to June 7.
