FOR VISION, sight is not a necessity. Visually impaired are generally constructive and creative. And still there is lack of sensitivity among people for visually impaired.
Commissioner RK Mittal who recently had received the national award for working for handicapped said this in an emotional speech at the programme organised by the National Council of the Blind, UP Chapter at Rai Umanath Bali auditorium on the occasion of 197th birth anniversary of Sir Louis Braille.
The programme began with the recital of a self-written poem by a visually impaired student of the Lucknow University, Pradeep. The occasion saw a prize distribution ceremony in which prizes were given to visually impaired people for their performance in various State events held last year for the visually impaired.
Md Attahullah, the captain of the Aligarh Cricket team of visually impaired received the prize on behalf of his team. Lucknow’s Shebab Hussain got the prize for the best batsman, Gorakhpur’s Alok Singh got the prize for the best bowler, while the best All-Rounder’s prize went to Md Naseer. Girija Shankar Dubey of Kanpur got the prize for shot put. For chess Kanpur’s Ashok Gupta was awarded.
