Hoping to meet her brother again, Dalbir Kaur, the sister of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh lodged in a Pakistani jail, has applied for a visa.
Dalbir Kaur, who has already submitted her documents to the Pakistani embassy in New Delhi and will be submitting the documents of the entire family next week, claimed that the Pak interior minister Rehman Malik has assured her all help.
Earlier the family had visited Pakistan in 2008. Talking to HT, Dalbir Kaur, who was currently in Delhi said, "I had met Pakistan Human Rights Activist Ansar Burney in New Delhi and told him my wish to visit Sarbajit Singh. Burney made me talk to Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik. The Pak interior minister assured all help in getting visa and on his assurance I have submitted documents in embassy."
"We plan to go in the month of May and the wife and daughters of Sarabjit also will be going along, if visa is granted".
On a question, Dalbir Kaur, who has been since long demanding the release of her brother, said, "The relations between the both nations has shown improvement and I hope that my brother will get respite. I will be taking all the documents regarding the identity of Sarabjit and meet various ministers in Pakistan."
Recently Gopal Dass was released by the Pakistan Government and before that Kashmir Singh was also released. "I think Pakistan will also show leniency towards my brother", she added. "Ansar Burney has shown tremendous support and we hope that his efforts bring fruit. Sarabjit has spent lot of time jail and now Pakistan Government must think for his release," she added.
