In her letter to Musharraff sent along with the 'Rakhi', she said "millions of Indians will thank you if you free my brother".

The family had been yearning to see Sarabjit, who strayed into the Pakistani territory from Khalra Post more than 16 years ago because there was no fencing on the border post at the time, she said.

"Sarabjit is not Manjit Singh as claimed by Pakistan. His lawyer told us that there are few other mercy appeals pending before the Pakistan President and he would deal with them at one go," she informed over phone from her Bhikiwind village in Amritsar district.

Kaur said the family, especially Sarabjit's 43-year-old wife and the couple's two teenaged daughters, have been praying all along for his release.

"I also sent 'Rakhis' to some prisoners lodged in the same jail block as Sarabjit," she said.
