"Kaur was produced before the court on Saturday. She was living with her relatives. She knows a lot about the case, including how her husband plotted the murder. We will interrogate her," said Alok Mittal, joint commissioner of police, Gurgaon.

The police also recovered two country-made pistols and two dozen cartridges from her.

She has been accused of providing shelter to her 'gangster' husband. Police said she helped him although she knew he had committed the crime. Police have also frozen her bank account and are examining her call records.

The Haryana government had ordered a judicial probe into the case on Friday. In a surprising turn of events, assistant commissioner of police Sumer Singh was transferred from Gurgaon to Rohtak district hours after Rakesh Yadav, 32, was shot dead by two persons. One of the gunmen was burnt alive by a mob, and the incident sparked violence in the area.
