Say all is well

A worried student came up to me the other day and blurted, "I'm tired of being miserable, ma'am. I want to be happy, what should I do?"

I said, "Promise me that for one week, starting from today, you will open your mouth only when you want to express happiness or say something positive to someone. Keep it shut at all other times. Don't let even one negative word escape your lips."

With a promise to comply, she left. A week later, I asked her how she felt. "Well, the first two days were very difficult, but from the third day onwards, I started feeling happy and liberated. How did you know this exercise will work?"

I am no psychiatrist or doctor. Through this exercise, all I did at a very basic human level was to help her change her attitude by the words that she uttered. After all you can't feel good about yourself by carping about your job, your friends, family and above all yourself. Words affect our power more than we realise because the words that we use filter into our subconscious mind and become a part of our character and mental makeup.

So, let's keep ourselves free from negative thoughts; and instead associate oursselves only with positive thoughts so that we can restructure our belief system to give a new turn to the course of our life. Happy days, no grumblings!
