State Bank of India employees have decided to continue their strike over pension issues after their talks with authorities failed on Saturday.
Over 2,00,000 officers and workers of SBI in over 9,000 branches, located in different parts of the country, have been on an indefinite strike since Monday demanding revision in a pension scheme.
"Although we had scaled down our demands, the SBI management has refused to accept them. Therefore, we have no option but to continue the strike," said Umesh Nayak, president of the All India SBI Workers' Federation.
"The government had asked us to negotiate with the SBI management first before talking with them. But the management is not showing any interest in ending the deadlock," Nayak said after a high-level meeting between representatives of the employees and the management in New Delhi.
The union leader said that no "conciliatory talks" were planned at this stage.
