The Supreme Court on Monday handed over to the CBI the probe into the murder of the wife, son and daughter of a Dubai-based NRI three years ago in Bijnaur district of Uttar Pradesh.
A Bench of Justice AR Lakshmanan and Justice Altmas Kabir passed an order to this effect on a petition filed by one Shafique Ahmad alias Jumra who had lost his family members and Rs 2 lakh in the dacoity in 2003 while he himself was away in the UAE.
The order came after the Uttar Pradesh police informed the court that they could not trace the culprits despite their best efforts.
The petitioner had also alleged that in the age of science and technology, the Uttar Pradesh police were seeking the help of maulavis and tantriks (godmen) to trace the killer.
