The Supreme Court on Wednesday took suomotu cognisance of the incident in which an advocate threw ink at Sahar chief Subrata Roy on his reaching the court premises.
Roy had come to the SC on Tuesday to attend contempt proceedings launched against him by market regulator Sebi.
A bench headed by Justice RM Lodha observed the incident, that took place while Roy was in police custody, “prima facie indicated obstruction in the administration of justice.” It issued notice to the lawyer, Manoj Sharma, for his response on why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.
Attorney General GE Vahanvati, present to assist the court, said there was nothing to suggest about Sharma’s mental condition but it seemed he was publicity hungry as he had earlier thrown a shoe at Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi.
The bench posted the case for hearing on March 24.
