A Bench headed by Justice K G Balakrishnan passed the order after the Centre gave an undertaking that from next year it would make a provision for granting reservation to SC/ST candidates in the all-India quota.

He said admissions this year should be free of reservations in the 50 per cent all-India quota as this was not provided for in the prospectuses already issued. The reservations will, however, continue in the 50 per cent state quota.

The bench had passed the interim order on April 24 on a writ petition filed by a batch of 14 doctors challenging the method of calculating seats reserved for SC and ST candidates in post-graduate medical courses.
