Ever wondered about the works of art, cultural treasures or articles of historic value lying neglected in museums and other institutions? Such neglect might soon be history.
The culture ministry plans to get the country’s and world’s best scholars and put to use their expertise at these institutions.
A scheme for ‘Visiting Fellows in Art, Culture and Heritage Values’ was announced on Wednesday.
It will offer two-year fellowships to scholars to “infuse fresh knowledge capital” into 17 institutions such as the National Archives of India, Anthropological Survey of India, Archaeological Survey of India, National Gallery of Modern Art and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti.
Scholars from Indian universities, colleges or any government set-up will be offered the same pay they would have drawn had they continued in their parent organisation.
Fellows from abroad, retired people, and those from categories other than Indian universities, colleges or government organisations will be offered a fixed honorarium of Rs 80,000.
The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Salarjung Museum and Allahabad Museum,too, will be covered under the plan.
Scholars will be expected to provide the institution their academic expertise, induce academic orientation in their activities and facilitate interaction with visiting academics from other institutions.
