The teenager, M Nagalakshmi, was admitted to the government hospital in Madurai town with around 80% burn injuries, a police officer said.

She attempted suicide at her house when her family members were away.

The student reportedly became upset after a special court in Bangalore late Saturday sentenced Jayalalitha to four years in jail for corruption.
