EXCELLENCE SCHOOLS that achieve results above 95 per cent in the 2007 annual exams would be given prizes worth lakhs, schools education minister Dr Narottam Mishra said at a review meeting of the Excellence Schools held at the Subhash Excellence School here on Friday.
The minister said that the department is contemplating huge prize money for the good performers and urged the schools to put in their best efforts to further improve their results. He said the Excellence Schools would showcase the improving quality of education in the state and the teachers of these schools have the responsibility to achieve this.
Dr Mishra also said that the teachers should guide the students like their own children and see to it that the schools outperform the private schools in the state.
The principals of various schools made presentation about their respective achievements and the minister witnessed some of these presentations.
Principal secretary of the department I S Dani urged the principals to take such steps that would ensure that none of the students of these schools were placed in third division. He accepted that there were several difficulties facing the schools, particularly as regards dearth of teachers and principals. Saying that serious steps would be taken to solve the problem, the PS directed the Commissioner of Public Instruction L S Baghel to prepare proposals for filling up the vacant posts.
The PS also asked reasons for seats remaining empty in the Excellence Schools. The principals mentioned that the biggest impediment was the late conduction of the entrance exams that led to the students already taking admissions in other schools.

{{/usCountry}}The PS then directed that from next time onwards the entrance exams should be conducted by May 15 so that all the seats could be filled up.
Other problems like unavailability of hostels and improper distribution of forms were also discussed. During the meeting, the principals also agreed on adopting the ‘green school’ project of the MP Biodiversity Board under which tree plantation would be undertaken and various green techniques would be adopted.
