Science-event call for city students

TEN STUDENTS of city intermediate colleges have been selected for participating in the project making competition under a scheme of the Department of Science and Technology. The students will prepare projects on bio-diversity hitting life on earth, water and air.

TEN STUDENTS of city intermediate colleges have been selected for participating in the project making competition under a scheme of the Department of Science and Technology. The students will prepare projects on bio-diversity hitting life on earth, water and air.

The selected students are— Garima Gupta (Nagar Nigam Inter College, Civil Lines), Shalini Awashthi (BPSG, Mandhana), Ekta Gautam (Kailash Sarwati Balika Inter College), Kanchan Gupta (Ram Janki Inter College, Bithoor), Roshani Singh (Khalsa Inter College), Prabha Tiwari (RBRD, Nawabganj), Shailja (Gyan Bharti Inter College), Nitin Rajput (PPN Inter College), Ashish Verma (Jaspatrai Inter College) and Shishir Mishra (DMU Inter College). The selection was made on the basis of the projects made by the students and were displayed at PPN Inter College here today for the assessment by science experts.

According to district coordinator Dr Rakesh Kumar Yadav, the aim of the project is to develop scientific innovation among the youths so that they may take interest in future scientific discoveries and inventions. He said that the competition would include depiction of bio-diversity among the living species in the air and water. Besides, projects would also highlight the measures for conserving living species through natural or man made efforts.

On November 4, the selected participants would take part in the divisional competition to be held at Sun-International School. Thereafter, selected participants will be allowed to take part in the State-level competition to be held at Youth Hostel, Rumi Gate, Lucknow on November 25.

The outstanding participant will get the opportunity to participate in the national-level science competition on December 27, 2006 at Sikkim, where participant would get a chance to meet the President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam .
