Scolari, who ousted England from the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 European Championship, told BBC Radio Five he would be interested in succeeding Sven-Goran Eriksson when the Swede quits after the World Cup.

"Yes, I would like the job," he said. "After I finish my contract in Portugal I will consider all offers. England have a fantastic national team. But it is not for me at this moment. I am very happy in my job with Portugal. But when I finish my contract in July I will be free."

Scolari, a Brazilian, believes he would be able to master the English language and overcome the fact that he has no experience of coaching in England.

"I am a good coach and a man of the world," he said. "I am happy in any country. I have worked in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Brazil.
