The Kerala police on Sunday arrested one Akbar Raj for sending e-mail threats to the Prime Minister and President.
Dejected after a failed love affair, Raj had sent the emails to trap his lover. However, he did not have any connection with extremist forces, claimed the police.
The state police sought the help of intelligence agencies and IT giant Microsoft to crack the case in record time.
According to DGP Raman Srivastava, Raj, a computer instructor and hardware expert, used to stalk a girl. The police were able to trace the girl's address by decoding the link in the e-mails sent by Raj to several officials on October 27.
"He has confessed that he sent the mail. Employees of the Internet joint in Kochi have also identified him. So far, there is no information to link him with extremist forces," the DGP said.
Raj's parents have claimed that their son is receiving psychiatric treatment.
