SCP activists protest against soft drink giants

SWARAJ CHHATRA Parishad (SCP) activists took out a procession and burnt an effigy of soft drink companies at the Allahabad University Students? Union Hall here on Saturday. The activists later held a meeting and demanded ban on Pepsi and Coca Cola and urged the residents to discard the use of soft drinks. A large number of students under the SCP banner took out a procession from the Bank Road to AU shouting slogans against the soft drink companies .

SWARAJ CHHATRA Parishad (SCP) activists took out a procession and burnt an effigy of soft drink companies at the Allahabad University Students’ Union Hall here on Saturday.

The activists later held a meeting and demanded ban on Pepsi and Coca Cola and urged the residents to discard the use of soft drinks.

A large number of students under the SCP banner took out a procession from the Bank Road to AU shouting slogans against the soft drink companies, damaged cold drink bottles and burnt an effigy to lodge their protest.

The students held a meeting at AUU hall which was presided over by SCP president Om Prakash Shukla.

Addressing the meeting Shukla said that due to such international companies, the vendors selling local drinks like lemon juice, mango panna, shikanji and lassi were on the verge of starvation.

These companies were earning income of crores of rupees and harming the economy of the country. Shukla demanded the government to ban such companies.

Student leader Shri Narayan Yadav said that the citizens should oppose the film stars and cricket players promoting such drinks and threatened to carry out a nation-wide stir against soft drink companies operational in the country.

AU Sanskrit Department: General Candidates scoring 146 or above, SC candidates scoring 100 or above and all ST candidates should report for admission alongwith necessary certificates and fee at the Sanskrit Department between 11 am to 1 pm on August 7, 2006. Few seats were left and the admissions will be strictly according to the merit.

Meanwhile, students those who have taken admission in MA (previous) should get themselves enrolled at the department by 1 pm on August 7, 2006.

Next candidate will be granted admission on the seat if the students failed to enroll themselves by the given date and time.
