A journalist of national TV news channel was arrested on Friday for having cast a bogus vote during the Maharashtra Assembly polls on October 13.
Sanjay Prabhakar, a senior journalist with NDTV India was arrested by Shantinagar police in Bhiwandi in neighbouring Thane district after warrants were issued against him for having cast a bogus vote, police said.
However, he was later released on bail, police said.
Meanwhile, before his arrest, Prabhakar said that he had been informed of instances of bogus voting at Thane and so he had gone to check out the news.
"At Gopalnagar polling booth, I was asked by some people to go and vote. When I told them that I reside somewhere else and that I did not have an identity-card, they said that there was no checking for such things," Prabhakar said.
He said he asked his cameraman to go in and then followed the team as a normal voter and later cast his vote as one Dashrath Dalvi.
Action against Prabhakar was taken after the channel aired the news report on October 13 itself.
The warrant against Prabhakar was issued on Thursday.
