The sealing, which began in last week of May, has seen sealing of about 25 mobile-towers installed on various unauthorised constructions, as well as commercial and residential complexes, hospitals and school buildings.

So far, the GDA has sealed towers in Rajendra Nagar, Kaushambi, Indirapuram, Govindpuram, Patel Nagar, Lohia Nagar and Shalimar Garden areas.

GDA Vice-Chairman Narendra Chaudhary said that 611 such towers, which have either not been regularised or are installed flouting norms, would be sealed.

“Our unofficial estimate shows that such towers may well be over 1,000,” he said.

Officials said that the sealing drive would continue.

As per the guidelines, GDA officials said that the towers would have to be installed in parks, open-areas and green belts. The approval of the GDA board was mandatory before setting up such towers in residential and commercial areas.

The users, however, are now facing the after-effects of the sealing drive.

There have been several complaints of call-dropping and network congestion.
