He arrived nice and early at 9.45am to cast his vote, with his younger daughter Kasturi in tow. PWD minister Kshiti Goswami's polling station remains the same but his erstwhile electoral constituency, Dhakuria, has ceased to exist because of delimitation.
A portion of the Dhakuria assembly segment has now been inducted into Jadavpur constituency and the rest into Tollygunge. The area where Goswami has traditionally been casting his vote now rests with the chief minister's constituency.
But Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's cabinet colleague and a top leader of Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) emerged with a broad smile after exercising his franchise, saying, "This time I voted in favour of the BJP. I pushed the EVM button bearing the symbol of lotus." He broke into a hearty laughter and told a neighbour, "So are you happy now!"
"This person (his neighbour) always campaigns for BJP. Whenever he comes to my house, he has no other topic but to voice his support for the BJP. I said this to make him happy. But he is aware of my political leanings. Jokes apart, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee would secure a comfortable victory from Jadavpur," Goswami said,
Goswami's house is adjacent to the school, that serves as the polling station. Asked whether he felt like an outsider casting his vote, now that the polling station is no longer a part of his erstwhile seat Dhakuria, Goswami said, "The memories of my earlier constituency still haunt me. But why should I think myself as an outsider?"
