The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on Friday announced the second phase of the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 — to be conducted on January 30-31 — for candidates who faced disruptions during the test and eventually could not complete the test.
The first phase of CAT 2009 was from November 28 to December 8th, 2009 but a virus attack and computers crashing in centres across the country led to chaos with the test being disrupted for the first few days.
The CAT website stated: Equity and fairness requires that candidates who faced disruptions during the test be given an opportunity to complete the test while not requiring those who completed the test successfully to take the test again.
The IIMs have arrived on a criterion to decide which student must be allowed to re-appear for the examination.
“The criteria is based on the analysis of calls and emails received from the candidates; site reports filed by the site managers; computer logs; and information gathered from websites and blogs,” said an official from the IIM CAT Committee.
The candidates identified for the re-test in phase two would receive communication from Prometric by January 10, 2010.

Nearly, 2.15 lakh students had appeared for CAT till December 7, 2009, IIM-A officials had stated earlier.
