Second phase in Manipur posts 50%

Despite heavy rains, long queues of voters are seen at booths in Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishenpur.

A turnout of about 50 per cent was recorded in the second phase of the Manipur Assembly polls in the three districts of Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishenpur till 2 pm on Wednesday, officials said.

Imphal West polled 52 per cent, while Imphal East recorded 50 per cent and Bishenpur 48 per cent, they said.

Clashes among supporters of different candidates were reported from Naoriya Pakhang Lakh and Khundrakpam constituencies. However, they did not disrupt polling, officials said.

Hundreds of voters were seen at several polling stations despite heavy rains which were continuing, they said.

Though polling will end at 3.30 pm, voters who had entered polling stations might be allowed to cast their votes even after this time, they said.
