Security has been beefed up in the police stations in Vellore district, especially those near Andhra Pradesh border, following the loot of rifles by suspected extremists from a Dharmapuri police station.

The police stations in the border areas have been asked to keep their weapons in safe custody, police sources said.
Combing operations in the nearby forest areas also were undertaken.
Suspected extremists had looted six rifles and one walkie-talkie from a police station in Maoist-infested Adhiyamankottai village two days back.
