According to sources, the three-day operation was the outcome of an MHA advisory in the wake of the Chhattisgarh attack on May 25.

Officials engaged in the operation said the training camp was operating on a remote stretch of the Gandak river close to Muzaffarpur district.

A brief encounter ensued, but the Maoists took advantage of the difficult terrain to escape from the scene, claimed officials.

"The uniforms and other material seized from the spot suggest that more than 100 Maoist cadres, including several women, were undergoing training at the camp," said deputy superintendent of police Anoj Kumar.
