Security heightened at Narmada dam

Security has been stepped up at the Narmada dam site in Ahmedabad following terror attacks and planting of bombs in Surat.

Security has been stepped up at the Narmada dam site in Gujarat following terror attacks in the state capital and planting of bombs in Surat, police said on Tuesday.

"The security has been beefed up after the terror strikes as Narmada dam is a very important installation of the state," District Superintendent of Police Khursheed Ahmead said.

Narmada district police along with Gujarat Industrial Security Force (GIFS) has been entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the dam and around 70 personnel have been deployed at the dam site, police said.

Narmada supplies drinking and irrigation water to parched North Gujarat and Saurashtra region of the state. The dam is not filled up this time due to scanty rainfall in its catchement areas.
