Police and paramilitary forces have tightened security in the temple town of Ayodhya and adjoining Faizabad.

"We are conducting regular checking in trains, buses, hotels, and other places," Faizabad SSP RKS Rathore said.

Security personnel equipped with metal and explosive detectors are keeping vigil in the entire city, he added.

On July 5, 2005, six heavily armed militants attacked the makeshift Ram temple at the site of destroyed Babri Mosque in Ayodhya. However, security forces shot down the militants after 6-7 hours long encounter.
