A massive deployment of security forces on Wednesday ensured that the sealing drive largely remained peaceful.
Over 15,000 security personnel were present on Delhi roads to back up MCD officials. Forty-four persons were arrested and 170 detained all across the Capital.
Among the people arrested was general secretary of Confederation of All India Traders, Praveen Khandelwal.
Teams of the paramilitary forces, including the Rapid Action Force, the Central Reserve Police Force and the Border Security Force, were deployed.
At least 15 companies of Delhi Armed Police and 15 companies of paramilitary force were present on roads.
Arrangements to tackle any resistance were made from the morning. Delhi Police set up barricades at the locations where sealing was to be conducted. BSF men with assault rifles and Delhi Armed Police in riot gear were present at the spots. At Maharani Bagh, where the CTC plaza was sealed, police had called for water cannons and tear gas shells. Four persons, including Khandelwal, were placed under preventive arrest there under the 107/51 CrPc.
At other areas, there were sporadic protests. In north-west Delhi, police arrested 33 persons and detained 95. "We picked the persons who we felt could instigate the crowd and worsen the situation," said DCP, North West, Manish Aggarwal.

All Delhi Police officers, meanwhile, have been told to remain on high alert.
"Today's arrangements were satisfactory. It is due to the effective strategic deployment by the Delhi Police and good communication with the community leaders that we have been able to maintain peace," said Delhi Police spokesperson Deepender Pathak.
