The administration is on high alert after the incident of serial bomb blasts in Varanasi on March 7 and the recent terror strikes in Mumbai.

High police officials, including IG Varanasi zone, AC Sharma, senior superintendent of police Ashutosh Pandey and SP (City), Anant Deo Tiwari, inspected the Gyanwapi complex and its surrounding areas and reviewed security arrangements. A bomb disposal squad also did a rehearsal in the sensitive areas.

The officials inspected the routes through which lakhs of devotees would throng the sensitive Gyanwapi complex to perform the Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.
They also inspected the spy camera spots from Dashwaswamedh ghat to Chhatradwar at Chowk- the entrance point of Gyanwapi complex.
