A YOUTH identified as Garvit Narang tried to commit self-immolation outside the BND College here on Thursday. He was protesting against the alleged ill-treatment meted out to him by some student leaders.
However, a couple of policemen and some students prevented the youth from doing so. The cops brought the youth to the Cantonment police station from where he was sent to the KPM Hospital for medical treatment. Later, the victim lodged an FIR with the Cantonment police station against some student leaders.
Narang is an employee of a Mall Road-based private bank. According to Garvit, an ex-student of BND, had come to the college to meet his friends. But some student leaders and their supporters manhandled him and abused him for allegedly supporting a rival candidate in the recent students’ union elections.
Garvit claimed that he was being ill-treated right from the day, the results of student union polls were declared. Garvit tried to commit self-immolation in protest against the alleged ill-treatment.
