Close on the heels of arresting a top militant commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Mohammad Ahsan Dar, police on Thursday killed a self-styled commander of the al Badr terrorist group during an encounter at Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
Tamim, a top ranking commander of Al-badr, was killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Handwara in the wee hours on Thursday, the sources said.
The encounter broke out last night when security forces surrounded a village in Handwara area following specific information about Tamim's presence in the area, the sources said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir confirmed the killing of a militant in the encounter but said his identity and group affiliation were being ascertained.
