WORLD HUMAN Rights Day was observed in Bhopal on Sunday in different modes. The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) organised a seminar on ‘Human Rights of Victims and Women’ in association with the State police and NGOs working in the field of women emancipation, while destitute women and gas victims formed a human chain to press for their demand of clean drinking water and social security pension.
On the other hand slum dwellers formed a human chain against forcible eviction. In Betul, hundreds of tribals formed a human chain and raised slogans describing the hype over ‘human rights’ as an eyewash.
Key speaker at the SHRC seminar was former chairman of National Human Rights Commission Justice A S Anand. Governor Dr Balram Jakhar inaugurated the seminar. Participants focussed on neglect of victims of crime in terms of human rights protection and said remedies must be devised to address wrongs done to them and their consequent fall outs.
Retired Supreme Court judge Justice P V Reddy, SHRC Chairman Justice D M Dharmadhikari, Director General of Police (DGP) Anand Rao Pawar, Director National Judicial Academy Prof Dr Mohan Gopal, Director National Law Institute University Dr Bal Raj Chauhan and others participated in the seminar.

Daily wage employees of the State Government took out a rally on the occasion to demand a change in policy for their regularization.
Hundreds of tribals, under the banner of Shramik Adivasi Sangthan, assembled at Betul district headquarters, formed a human chain and raised slogans to drive home their contention that all the hype of human rights and its protection was an eyewash in the absence of sensitive administration committed to do justice to the people.
