SHIV SENA has extended its support to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ravindra Patni contesting for the mayoral seat.

After consulting with central leadership of the party, district committee of the Shiv Sena has decided not to field its candidate for the mayoral seat. District president of the party Pawan Awasthi stated that the party has extended its full support to the BJP candidate contesting for the mayoral seat.
“After holding discussion with senior party leader Manohar Joshi and in-charge of UP and MP Chandrakant Khare, it was decided to extend support to the BJP candidate,” Awasthi added.
Party office-bearers accepted that Shiv Sena was not in a position to win the mayoral election in Kanpur and therefore it was decided to support the BJP candidate.
“Now the party can concentrate on those seats on which it has fielded its candidate,” Awasthi said.
Earlier party had decided to contest more than 60 seats and the final list would be declared on Monday, he said.
Office-bearers of the party also informed that issues related to Hindu agenda would dominate party’s agenda for the municipal corporation elections.
Meanwhile, hectic activities were witnessed at the party offices of all political parties for finalising the list of its candidates for the corporation elections. With only one-day left for the nomination process, all the frontline political parties are leaving nothing to chance for ensuring the selection of suitable candidate for the corporation elections. It may be pointed out that none of the parties have yet handed over the party symbol to their candidates.
Apart from BJP, SP and Congress other prominent political parties in the electoral fray are Raj Babbar’s Jan Morcha and Bhartiya Janshakti Party headed by Uma Bharti. The Bhartiya Janshakti Party has decided to field the rebel BJP candidate for the mayoral seat and 50 rebel candidates of the party for the corporators’ seat.
