"Had he come to us, we would have certainly supported him but he joined Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)," Joshi told PTI.

MNS has fielded Prakash Mahajan for the MLC poll from Aurangabad graduates constituency and Sena has put up its candidate against Mahajan. Joshi was present when the Sena nominee filed his papers.

Joshi, a former Lok Sabha Speaker, enjoyed good rapport with Pramod Mahajan. "Politics is different, emotions are a different matter," Joshi said.

The July 15 Legislative Council election will see two close relatives of the late Mahajan family pitted against each other.

Mahajan's brother-in-law and BJP general secretary Gopinath Munde, will be campaigning for party nominee and his supporter Shrikant Joshi for the MLC polls.
