Fiji's coup leader Frank Bainimarama on Wednesday swore in his new caretaker prime minister a day after toppling the elected government.

Bainimarama administered the oath to Jona Senilagakali, a doctor with no political background, who will lead the interim administration, at a ceremony in Suva.

"I Jona Baravilala Senilagakali do swear to give true allegiance to the people of Fiji," he said, facing his new boss and laying his hand on a Bible.
"I will be at all times a true and faithful caretaker prime minister, so help me God," he said.
