The benchmark Sensex gained about 45 points in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday, on sustained buying by funds in blue-chip stocks.

The BSE 30-share index, which had gained over 185 points on Thursday, was up by another 44.81 points at 12,434.22 in the first five minutes of trading.

Similarly, the wide based National Stock Exchange index, Nifty was up by 18.85 points at 3,583.75.
The major gainers were BHEL, HDFC Bank, Larsen and Toubro, Hero Honda, Maruti, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Reliance Energy, ACC, Tata Consultancy and Satyam Computers.
