Sensex recovers 50 pts in early trade

The benchmark index recovers by more than 50 points on selective buying by funds and retail investors.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex recovered by more than 50 points in early trade on Weednesday on selective buying by funds and retail investors.

The 30-share sensitive index which lost over 37 points on Tuesday, recovered by 50.79 points at 14,528.98 in the first five minutes of trading on funds buying in select heavyweight stocks.

In similar fashion, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty was up by 9.80 points at 4,205.70.

"Fresh buying in index-related stocks by funds and retail investors helped the Sensex to recover Tuesday's lost ground," stock brokers said.

Tata Steel stocks were up by Rs 1.60 at Rs 466.50 as buying interest continued to pick up at the current lower levels.

Other gainers were Reliance Energy, BHEL, ACC, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Grasim Industries, Satyam Computers, MTNL and ITC Ltd.
