Sensex up by 68 points in early trading

The Sensex on Tuesday shot up by 67.77 points during early trading hours due to persistent buying by Foreign Institutional Investors followed by heavy short covering by operators ahead of the expiry of February contract on Thursday.

The BSE's 30-share Sensex started the day on a promising note at 10,108.16 as against Monday's close of 10,079.30 and firmed up further to an intra-trade high of 10,154.22.

Later, the index eased marginally and was quoted at 10,147.07 at 10:30 am, still showing a smart gain of 67.77 points over the previous close.

Reliance Capital Venture Ltd (RCVL) was listed at Rs 24.80 at BSE in four bock deals during which 22.6 lakh shares changed hands, while at NSE, RCVL was listed for Rs 24.50 per share.
