Service rules for contract workers soon

PRINCIPAL SECRETARY, (Energy) AK Khurana today announced that the department would soon come out with service rules for contract workers serving the department. He also said the department would fix wages for them.

He was speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the UP Vidyut Mazdoor Sangthan here on Tuesday.

Admitting to the contribution of the daily-wagers or contract workers to the department, he said a service manual would soon be made for them to protect their interests.

He said their wages, which would be paid through cheques only, would be fixed. He also assured to take steps to ensure that contract workers/their family members were paid sufficient compensation in case of an accident.

Speaking about the proposal for increasing the power employees’ retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, Khurana said the UPPCL Board had already given its nod to the proposal. Formal orders in this regard would be issued after the proposal gets the Cabinet nod, he added.

He said the management was doing its best to change the situation and looked forward to employees’ cooperation.

Among others present on the occasion were Director (Personnel), Harishchandra, Director (Distribution) Arun, Lucknow discom MD BB Singh and LESA chief engineer AK Singh. According to the sangathan’s media incharge Vimal Pandey, the AGM welcomed the management’s announcements and assured it full cooperation.
