You need blood, they know it and the next moment you will find the members on the donation beds. After it’s done, they vanish from the scene without waiting for your thanks.

“Blood knows no religion. Donating blood to save Allah ke bande is service to Him. I think and feel, He accepts my namaz after I do this,” says 25-year-old Saifi. The force is full of such enthusiasts.Hold on! They are from different relgions, different professions and different walks of life. But, blood has bonded them together into a new religion.

On December 30, 2005 at 10 am Kanchan Singh admitted to Room number 19 of New Private Ward, Surgery Department of KGMU required four unit blood. Her husband Sudhindra was worried.

The husband contacted Reenu Mishra and narrated his problem. Within half an hour four young boys, Saifi, Ambar, Azam and Raj reached there. Reenu took them to KGMU Blood Bank and donated the blood and left at 1 pm.

The number of the membership is swelling day by day. Reenu Mishra popularly known as Guddo Bhabhi living near Crown gate Jagat Narain Road, started this group in 1999 with her two daughters, Shweta and Swati. The friends of the trio welcomed the idea. Reenu visited KGMU and saw a woman crying for help for her young son who needed blood. That was the beginning.

Reenu was later joined by two young boys Saifi and Ambar Puri. Ambar had been former vice president of Lucknow Christian College Students Union. He had a long list of friends to join this crusade.

“We never enquire about the actual identity of the patient, his caste, religion or economic background. The only query is that a doctor recommends his need.

The young members are busy in their professions. Some are still studying and others are in business. Saifi is with his father’s business and Raj has formed his Eureka dance group. We try that each member donates blood at least thrice a year.”

Others who have joined the group include, Vaidika, Avinash, Divya, Ekta, Vinod, Amit, Prachi and Monu. Interestingly most of the members have their bikes and can reach even the SGPGI within a half-an-hour call.

Another interesting factor is that the members do not take a penny from the person they are helping.

Dr. Shailendra Yadav of Surgery Department says the group also helps an NGO that organizes blood donation camps on the Republic and Independence days.

Famous Chandra Prakash Rastogi speaks high of Guddo Bhabhi, “She rushes to the hospital even in odd hours. She remains and consoles the patients and attendants even though they are complete strangers. And that’s makes here stand apart from others.”
